Course Description:
Through immersion in the historically rich Southern Spanish culture of Andalucía, this course offers the opportunity to improve language proficiency and obtain a better understanding of the diverse cultures that have lived in Spain and had an influence in modern Spanish language. From our base in the ancient city of Córdoba, we will learn the peculiarities of the Spanish spoken in Andalucía, its history and culture. We aim to answer three important questions: a) what is this Spanish dialect like?; b) what impact did Andalusian Spanish have on the Spanish spoken in the Americas?, and c) how is cultural diversity expressed in this dialect?
The course includes visits to the neighboring cities of Osuna, Seville and Granada and participation in Córdoba’s most important festivals and events. The course will focus on the most important linguistic features of the Spanish spoken in the south of Spain. This class will be complemented by language classes taken at the prestigious Academia Hispánica, homestay with local families, and several cultural trips. The course is entirely taught in Spanish. Prerequisite: SPAN202, and/or permission of instructor Cost $4300 (Cost includes airfare, lodging, in-country transportation, and meals) |
